We spent an entire day bashing the standard and Pro versions and we had multiple people form seasoned to newbies try their hands at running the XTE. Everyone enjoyed running the truck and in fact we actually had to start putting time limits on use as some were wanting to hog all the fun. At the end of the day, the bodies were a little worse for wear but nothing broke surprisingly since we had a few mishaps were the ouch face came out. Our final thoughts came down to this:
The Blackout XTE performs better than our expectations with the brushed motor setup. The motor makes great power and its’ top end speed is more than enough for any novice. The truck handles bumps, dips, and uneven surfaces with ease, however there is a little bit of bump steer. Not really an issue when you are in the backyard but I thought I would mention it. The truck does take on jumps and flys a little tail down through the air. The suspension does a good job of soaking up the landing and settles out pretty quickly.
The included Ni-MH battery pack lasts a decent amount of time with us being able to get about 20 minutes of good bashing out of it before needing a recharge. A better charger like the HX-705 is recommended as the included wall charge will take about 5 1/2 hours to charge the battery.
Blackout XTE Pro
The Blackout XTE PRO version is nothing short of being a speed freak. The truck speeds up in an instance and is very impressive. This truck won’t set any speed records but at the price point everyone was more than happy with the speed out of it. The Pro handles the same as the standard but we noticed less bump steer out of the front with the beefier servo. Getting the Pro to fly well through the air was a little trickier but that is probably due to the extra speed and torque from the brushless setup.
As with the Blackout XTE, we got a pretty decent and consistent runtime out of the included Li-Po charger although like the wall charger with the standard we did have to wait on average about 3 hours for the pack to full charge. We were able to knock that time down to an hour with the HX-403 charger.
